Removing a person from Telegram group chat voice

Removing a person from Telegram group chat voice

This feature, called Telegram group voice chat, live voice chat, or audio rooms, makes it easier for the group administrator to manage the voice chat. The administrator can choose to mute the speaker, revoke the speaker's microphone privileges, kick the speaker out of the voice chat, or completely remove the user from the group. The completely remove feature prevents the removed user from rejoining the voice chat or the group unless the administrator chooses to ban the removed user from the group.

Key Rules (as of 2026):

  • Only those administrators with the "Manage Voice Chats" permission can manage the speakers/listeners in the voice chat.
  • In most groups/channels:  Admins can mute the speaker, lower the speaker's hand, revoke the speaker's microphone privileges, or ban the speaker.
  • Removing the speaker from the voice chat does not necessarily remove the speaker from the group. Ban the speaker if the administrator wants to remove the speaker from the group completely.
  • All members can see the administrator's actions, such as muting the speaker or removing the speaker from the voice chat.

There are two main scenarios:

  1. Revoking the speaking rights or mute (removing the user from the active voice conversation but not banning the user from the group).
  2. Banning the user from the group (removing the user completely from the voice conversation and not allowing them to rejoin the voice conversation).

Step By Step Guide to Manage the Participants in the Active Voice Chat (For Mobile - Android/iOS)

  1. Join or start the voice chat in your group or channel (tap the voice chat bar at the top of the chat screen).

  2. Once you are in the voice chat screen, tap the icon for the participants' list or swipe up on the bar to access the full participants' list.

  1. Find the person you want to manage in the Speakers section (or raised-hand requests).

  2. Tap and hold (or tap) their name/profile → A menu appears with options:

    • Mute (silence their microphone right away)
    • Revoke Speaking Rights / Mute by default (stop them from speaking in the future)
    • Lower Hand (if they raised their hand)
    • Remove from Voice Chat or Kick (remove them from the current voice chat)
    • Ban / Remove from Group (remove them entirely; they cannot join the group unless unbanned)

Select the action you want to perform.

Some Tips for Effective Voice Chat Moderation

  • Manage Voice Chats permission should be given to trusted admins only (Edit Admin Rights feature).
  • In group settings for controlled voice chats, use Mute by default for new speakers.
  • Banned users cannot rejoin the group voice chat until you unban them (members list > Unban feature).
  • All actions are recorded under Recent Actions for transparency and honesty.
  • Keep your Telegram app updated; the features and permission structure are changing (for better raise hand management, for instance, in 2026).
