How to Share Live Location on Telegram

How to Share Live Location on Telegram

Telegram's Live Location function allows you to show your current position to friends, family, or group members for a certain amount of time. Unlike a one-time static location pin, live location updates continuously as you move—perfect for meeting up, tracking a journey, coordinating events, or ensuring safety. The sharing is encrypted from one end to the other, and you decide who can see it and for how long, which can be 15 minutes, 1 hour, or 8 hours.

Important Notes:

  • Location sharing on Telegram needs the app to access your device's location features.
  • Only the person who started it can stop it before it's done.
  • Recipients see your moving position on an interactive map inside the chat.

Step-by-Step: How to Send Live Location on Mobile (Android & iOS)

  1. Open Telegram and find the private chat, group, or channel you want to send your location to.

  2. Tap the attachment icon (paperclip 📎 or + symbol) next to the message input field.

  • Use shorter durations for casual meetups; longer ones for trips.
  • You can share live location in groups—everyone sees it.
  • Privacy: Only people in that chat see your location; it stops automatically when the timer ends or you turn it off.
  • Battery: Live sharing uses more power—keep your phone charged.
  • Update Telegram regularly for the smoothest experience.
