How to Add a Discussion Group to Your Telegram Channel and Enable Comments on Posts

The channels are created to be one-way broadcasts. However, the option to turn the channels into interactive channels is available by integrating a discussion group. This option provides the option to have a “Comment” button on all posts (for new posts after the integration).

Key Benefits:

  • The main channel remains clean (used for broadcasts).
  • The discussion happens in the separate group.
  • The comments are moderated by the admins without the need to clutter the main channel.
  • The option works for public and private channels (the Telegram group must be public or have the right settings for invites).

Requirements:

  • You are the owner of the channel or an admin with full editing rights.
  • You need a Telegram group (can be created) to integrate.
  • You need the latest Telegram version (2026).

Step-by-Step: Link a Discussion Group to Your Channel (Mobile – Android/iOS)

  1. Open Telegram and go to your channel.

  2. Tap the channel name at the top of the screen to go to the channel info/profile screen.

  3. Tap Edit (pencil icon) or Manage Channel.

  4. Scroll down the screen and find the Discussion section (this might be under "Linked Discussion Group" or "Add Discussion Group").

    • Add initial members (optional)
      Confirm
      Select a group to link.

  1. Verify the link. Telegram may display a confirmation message or include a special pinned post in the group (e.g., "#channelpost" auto-forward notice).

Once linked, the Comment button will be automatically added to the bottom of all new content that you post in the channel. Subscribers will use the button to access the linked group where the thread is located.

On Desktop (Windows/Mac/Web)

  1. Open your channel.
  2. Click on the channel name → Manage Channel / Edit.
  3. Go to the Discussion section in the settings.
  4. Click on Add Group and select the group.
  5. Confirm.

The steps are the same except for the button. The Comment button will appear on the new posts.

How Comments Work After Linking

  • When you post something on the channel, Telegram will automatically forward a copy of the post to the discussion group.
  • Subscribers will see a Comment button with the number of comments on the post.
  • The button will open the synced thread from the group.
  • All the comments/replies from the group will appear on the channel post.
  • For older posts, comments may not appear. Only new posts will have comments.
  • To turn it off: Go to the discussion settings and click Unlink or Remove Group.

Tips for Better Management

  • Moderation: Make your discussion group ‘admin only’ for posting messages or use ‘slow mode’/‘restrict replies’.
  • Group Privacy: Make your group ‘public’ or ‘private’ with invite links; users must have access to comment.
  • Using Multiple Channels: One group is only linked to one channel at a time.
  • Best Practices: Pin a post announcing your new ‘comment’ feature; check ‘Recent Actions’ in your group for potential ‘spam’ messages.
  • If you encounter a problem: Verify that you are a channel owner; relink your channel if necessary; check out Telegram's FAQ page.

This setup turns your Telegram channel into a community center while keeping your broadcasts professional and organized.
